If there is a design recommended to build. Though I still think hackers will run with it. But IF there is, I think making the sculpture spell out something would be fun. It could be anything as simple as spelling "HOPE" or "2600".
I think that we could have a design and encourage people to work on it. Even with a plan there is lots of space to play with, it is lego after all.

Why not to give everyone one block when they arrive and direct them to table to contribute into this work. It might be worthless or priceless. Cathedral it might not be, but Bazaar perhaps.
